Québec's order of veterinarians reminds owners of dogs and cats that go outside of the importance of having their pets vaccinated for rabies. Vaccination provides adequate protection for animals and reduces the risks of transmission from pets to humans.
Vaccine baits are used to vaccinate certain wild animals, but they should never be used for domestic animals. Talk to your veterinarian to find out how to comply with the recommendations for effectively protecting domestic animals.
The owners of food animals should consult their veterinarian to assess relevance of rabies vaccination.
Do not let domestic animals stray, and prevent wild animals from entering areas where domestic animals live.
